‘Playground 71’/’Best Glow’ is the new AA side single from Deptford duo Frank’s Daughter, released 10th June on Immure Recordings. The single is the follow up to March’s acclaimed debut ‘Fall Fully Backwards’, which picked up plays on Xfm and 6Music.
Frank’s Daughter create a dark, claustrophobic but ultimately beautiful post-rock soundscape that references artists like Aphex Twin, Radiohead, and Portishead. A ‘Landscape’ remix of ‘Fall Fully Backwards’ will also be available with the new single.
Frank’s Daughter are Frank (vocals, guitar, keys) and Arthur (guitar, bass, programming), who both have a background in Fine Art and who met in New York while playing in different bands. Their debut album was recorded in an isolated Alpine chalet, which was under renovation and had no electricity except for in the attic studio. Consequently ‘The Sound Of A Heart Unravelling’ is incredibly haunting. There is a sadness to the record that feels pure, that in part comes from their removal from urban life.
The duo’s background in visual art is obvious from the care they have taken with the packaging of the limited edition version of the single. Each CD is covered with hand picked vintage photographs, wrapped in old book paper twine and sealed with a wax stamp of the band’s logo.
